micro:bit Sensors Cheatsheet

Accelerometer gestures, compass, temperature, and microphone.

Accelerometer
accelerometer.get_x() Tilt left/right in milli-g (positive = right)
accelerometer.get_y() Tilt forward/back in milli-g
accelerometer.get_z() Vertical acceleration (߉? -1024 when flat, gravity pointing down)
accelerometer.get_values() Returns (x, y, z) as a tuple
accelerometer.current_gesture() Returns current gesture as string
accelerometer.was_gesture("shake") True if gesture occurred since last check
Gestures
"shake" Board was shaken
"face up" Screen pointing upward
"face down" Screen pointing downward
"up" / "down" / "left" / "right" Edge pointing up/down/left/right
"freefall" Falling ߀” minimal force detected on all axes
Compass & Temperature
compass.calibrate() Run calibration game ߀” must be done before first use
compass.heading() Magnetic heading 0߀“360 degrees (0 = North)
compass.get_x/y/z() Raw magnetometer readings
temperature() CPU die temperature in Celsius (reads slightly above ambient)
Microphone & Speaker (V2)
microphone.sound_level() 0߀“255 current sound level
microphone.was_event(SoundEvent.LOUD) True if loud sound occurred since last check
SoundEvent.QUIET Event for quiet after loud
music.play(music.RINGTONE) Play built-in tune through the speaker
