Resolution and Refresh Rate

Higher refresh rates consume more battery. 60 Hz is sufficient for productivity; 120+ Hz is beneficial for gaming and feels smoother for general use.

Display Connectors

Most modern laptop displays use one of two internal connectors:

Finding the Right Replacement Panel

You need the exact panel part number, found by:

  1. Checking the existing panel ߀” remove the screen bezel and look at the sticker on the back of the panel
  2. Searching your laptop model on panelook.com or a spare parts site

Critical specs that must match:

  • Size (inches) and resolution
  • Connector type and pin count (30-pin vs 40-pin eDP)
  • Backlight type (LED ߀” standard on all modern panels)
  • Mounting holes position

Refresh rate and panel brand (LG, AUO, BOE, Samsung) can vary ߀” a 60 Hz IPS replacement will work in a laptop that shipped with a different 60 Hz IPS panel even if brands differ.

Screen Replacement ߀” Step by Step

Tools needed

  • Plastic pry tools / spudger
  • PH0 / PH00 screwdriver
  • Suction cup (helps on tight bezels)

Steps

  1. Power off and remove the battery or disconnect it
  2. Remove the bezel: pry carefully from a corner using a plastic tool ߀” most bezels are held by clips; some have hidden screws under rubber bungs
  3. Remove the panel screws: usually 4 screws (two each side) securing the panel to the hinge bracket
  4. Tilt the panel forward onto the keyboard deck
  5. Disconnect the eDP cable: carefully peel back the tape, then pull the connector straight out ߀” never pull by the cable
  6. Disconnect the webcam cable if routed through the screen assembly
  7. Fit the new panel: connect eDP cable, press firmly until seated, tape it back down
  8. Test before reassembly: power on with the panel resting loose ߀” verify image quality, backlight, webcam
  9. Reattach bezel: align and press clips around the perimeter

Backlight Issues vs Panel Failure

  • Full assembly (LCD + digitizer + glass): most expensive but simplest to install
